The TA-650 is a new test fixture that will give any instrument shop the ability to conduct more detailed testing of the Collins DGS-65 directional gyro then was previously available. This test fixture includes all the requirements of the OEM Customer Acceptance Panel (Figure 5-14) as described in the overhaul manual and other additional required capabilities needed to perform the Final Performance Test as detailed in Table 5.5 of the overhaul manual. The final performance test checks the overall performance of the unit and determines if it is operating within specifications and must be performed before any unit is returned to service after a repair. The capabilities contained within the TA-650 are based on some of the equivalent testing capabilities that are part of the CTS-64 test set and they include; a flux valve simulator with 30° selection intervals (built and calibrated to OEM specifications); a Bed of Nails test Fixture (built to OEM specifications) which allows the gyro electronics to be removed from the gyro case and tested with complete access to all the test points which are screened on the assembly adjacent to each respective board; CCU-65 alignment potentiometers and switches and the required switching to allow for servo loop testing. The panel also provides relay switching to select from the internal flux valve simulator to an external FDU-70 flux valve. An HSI may also be interfaced to the panel to allow a complete system test. The panel also contains an analog slaving meter and switching that allows selection of this meter or the slaving error LED’s as called out for on the customer acceptance panel. Several features have recently been added to this test panel. The TA-650 now includes a CSDB bus reader card with display to indicate the gyros digital heading (Bus Reader no longer required). The status of the Digital Heading Flag Bit is also shown on a seperate panel mounted LED. The third feature recently added is a panel mount DVM used to monitor most of the Meter Select switch positions. These additions further enhance the panels capabilities and make it the most economical, stand alone DGS-65 Test Fixture available today. The TA-650 is built around a standard 19-inch enclosure.
